Neighborhoods

Interesting, fun and friendly communities of every size and style can be found in and around Greensboro. That only makes it harder for new residents to decide exactly where they want to settle. They must weigh a long list of factors. Logistically, the particular neighborhood may determine the cost, size, age and style of a home. Don’t forget the tax rates, school districts, city services, recreational facilities and commute times involved in relocation!

From both a social and psychological standpoint, your neighborhood reflects your personality, values and lifestyle. It also determines things such as economic opportunity and future friendships. Fortunately for all Greensboro newcomers, whether they want to live in the center of urban action or prefer the natural serenity of the countryside, the greater Greensboro area has neighborhoods to meet every expectation.

Kernersville -  Located at the heart of the Piedmont Triad metropolitan area, which consists of the cities of Greensboro, High Point, and Winston-Salem. Although Kernersville has traditionally been considered a suburb of Winston-Salem, the arrival of new industries (particularly the Dell Computer plant), has given the city a booming population and a character all its own.

However in recent months there have been talks of closing the plant which could have a big impact on the city. Much of the rural farmland surrounding the town has been sold and turned into upper-class housing developments, and numerous shopping centers have been built in the town over the past few years. Oak Ridge - A town in northwestern Guilford County, North Carolina.  The Oak Ridge Military Academy, a private, coed, college-preparatory military boarding school, was established here in 1852. It is the third-oldest military school in the nation still in operation, and it is the official military school of North Carolina, as designated by the state legislature.

Until the late 1990s the Oak Ridge area was mostly rural farmland, with numerous tobacco and strawberry farms. However, since its incorporation as a town in 1998, Oak Ridge has undergone rapid suburbanization and population growth. Many of the area's farms have been sold to developers and turned into upper-class housing developments, and several shopping centers have been built around the military academy. Today Oak Ridge is considered to be a wealthy suburb of nearby Greensboro, North Carolina's third-largest city. One rural pastime which is still popular in Oak Ridge is the raising and breeding of horses; each Easter weekend the town hosts a popular horse show.
